I know you know, you ‘should’ have healthier habits.
That to be a good person, you have an obligation to be as fit and healthy as you can be. You know – work hard, be kind, be fit, be healthy
But that type of attitude towards health, doesn’t really gel with me.
I don’t think anyone has a moral obligation to be fit and healthy. Someone who doesn’t actively engage in decreasing their risk of illness, isn’t worth less as a human, than someone who scales the highest peaks or runs marathons.
You are in charge of your body. It’s your choice.
However, I ask you to view healthy habits as form of self care. Making the decision to eat more nutrient food helps our bodies operate. Taking time out to read an interesting book or take up a new hobby feeds our minds, and taking time to relax, helps our souls to recharge.
I think changing the way we think about getting fit and healthy from being an obligation, to simply being ways we take care of ourselves is a much kinder and stronger way to see ‘getting healthy’.
I mean, when someone says to you ‘get healthy’ do you see of hours exercises you hate and eating plain celery OR do you see yourself enjoying your favourite activity with friends?
