But for the love of Christmas, why is everyone making it so complicated?
Everytime you look at your socials, there’s something telling you what to eat as the secret to weight loss success. A new book. A new insight. Gut health. Intermettant Fasting. Keto. Juicing. Gluten Free, even.
And you’ve tried them…without much success.
So what are you supposed to do?
What are you supposed to eat to lose weight?
You can eat anything, as long as the energy content is less than your body current needs.
Huh? What? I know that’s what you’re thinking. How can that be?
The thing is – the key to weight management is your energy intake from food.
When you eat more energy (food), than you use, you’ll gain weight.
When you eat less energy (food), than you use, you’ll lose weight.
Yes, it’s all about energy in and energy out.
There isn’t any magic food, or any magic diet. It’s all about how able you are to eat consistently take in less energy than you need.
For weight loss:
1800 calories in burger and fries = 1800 calories in chicken and steamed vegetables
Note, the calorie content between different food items is all that matters in weight loss. I mean you if usually eat 2500 calories and lower your calories to 1800 calories. It’s not going to matter, for weight loss, if you choose to get those 1800 calories from a burger and fries or chicken and steamed vegetabales.
However, you’re going to feel different with your different food choices.
It’s going to be a better option to have the chicken and steam vegetables because you’ll get a good variety of nutrients and you’ll get more bang for your buck in the quantity as the chicken and steamed vegetables will be far less calorie dense than the burger and fries.
But the truth is – Yes, you can lose weight eating higher calorie foods, if your overall intake is less than your usual intake – that is to put yourself in a calorie deficit.
Because a calorie deficit is the absolute principle for weight loss.
But, how can you get started? How do you even know what your usual calorie intake is, to begin with?
